From Self-Doubt to Empowerment: My Calisthenics Journey

Ever since I can remember, I struggled with insecurities about my body. Bullying in primary school and isolation during my teenage years made me feel that I wasn’t pretty or thin enough. Determined to change that narrative, I turned to sports as a way to transform myself.

At sixteen, I began experimenting with online workout routines, eager to burn calories by any means necessary—even if the methods weren’t always healthy. Then, as the world shifted with the onset of COVID, the extended quarantine unexpectedly gave me the time to fully dive into fitness and educate myself about exercise.

One day, while browsing online, I discovered a YouTube video featuring a strong, confident woman performing impressive bodyweight exercises. Her visible muscles and fearless attitude captivated me. The fun and challenging routines she showcased inspired me to try calisthenics for myself.

Now, four years later, my goals have evolved. I no longer strive to be merely skinny; instead, I focus on building a functional, powerful body. Along the way, I’ve met incredible, supportive people who have become an essential part of my journey. I’ve even taken part in a calisthenics competition—and emerged victorious.

Through calisthenics, I’ve gained flexibility, mobility, endurance, and strength (I can now do fifty push-ups and twenty pull-ups!). More than just the physical benefits, this journey has bolstered my confidence, making me feel strong, empowered, and beautiful. I now embrace every new challenge with enthusiasm, and I’m forever grateful for the transformation that calisthenics has brought to both my mind and body.
